HDMI Conversion

Since HDMI and DVI are very similar, it is possible to convert from HDMI to DVI by simply adding the appropriate adapter.  When working with PPI by Microsoft devices over HDMI, it may be necessary to either force the EDID (Extended display identification data) at the graphics card level or to utilize a device that will record and continually transmit the EDID to the host system. HDMI will not transmit the needed EDID information between the device and system.  If the EDID information is not readable, the host system will not know the proper resolution and frequency which will result in the screen being black.

DisplayPort conversion

The signal originating from a DisplayPort can be easily converted to DVI utilizing a DisplayPort to DVI adapter.  However, the inverse is not true.  When one needs to convert a DVI signal to DisplayPort it is necessary to use a Dual-Link DVI to DisplayPort converter.  A mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter may also be used.

DVI (Digital Video Interface)

There are three variants of the DVI connector, DVI-A, DVI-D and DVI-I.  DVI-A is an analog only connection and is unsuitable for connecting to a PPI device.  Customers are encouraged to use DVI-D or DVI-I Dual-Link cables with our 55” and 82” devices.  DVI-D or DVI-I Single-link cables may be used without issue on our 82” device, but when used on our 55” product the device will default to 60Hz refresh rate.  Doing so will not present a visually optimal image and may be unsuitable in certain situations.
