Symptoms

A memory leak occurs in the Motion JPEG Intel hardware media foundation transform (HMFT) decoder when the camera is opened at 720p or higher capture resolution in Microsoft Lync 2013. This issue occurs on a device that has Intel's fourth-generation core processor (Haswell). Additionally, this memory leak causes Lync 2013 to crash on an ASUS UX31L Ultrabook after about 20 calls.

This issue occurs because gallery view and the display window size are not large enough to enable a 720p or higher capture resolution.

Additionally, 2.5 megabytes (MB) of memory may leak during every video call in Lync 2013.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update:

2889929 October 2014 update for Lync 2013 (KB2889929)
