About this update

This update provides a regression fix to a manageability setting for the out-of-date ActiveX control blocking security feature in Internet Explorer 11, Internet Explorer 10, Windows Internet Explorer 9, and Windows Internet Explorer 8.

Update information

To enable this update, install the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. To do this, go to Microsoft Update. Additionally, see the technical information about the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer.

Note This update was first included in the December cumulative security update for Internet Explorer (MS14-080).

More Information

A regression to the "Turn off blocking of outdated ActiveX controls for Internet Explorer on specific domains" manageability setting for the out-of-date ActiveX control blocking security feature was introduced as part of the November cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. Domains in this allow list are not exempt from blocking because of the regression.

This update is a fix to the regression, and restores expected functionality to the "Turn off blocking of outdated ActiveX controls for Internet Explorer on specific domains" manageability setting. This setting lets you manage a list of domains on which Internet Explorer will stop blocking outdated ActiveX controls. Outdated ActiveX controls are never blocked in the Trusted Sites or the Local Intranet zones. For more information, see Update to block out-of-date ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
