Introduction

This article describes update KB3114996 for Microsoft Outlook 2010, which was released on April 5, 2016. This update has a prerequisite.

Known issues

After you install this update, you may experience the following error when you try to start Microsoft Outlook:

The Windows installer service could not be accessed.


To fix this problem, do one of the following:

  • Option 1: On systems on which update KB3139923 is installed, make sure that update KB3072630 is also installed.

  • Option 2: Uninstall KB3139923.

Improvements and fixes

Fixes the following issues:

  • After receiving the RPC_S_SERVER_TOO_BUSY response from the Exchange Server, Outlook 2010 that has the MAPI over HTTP transport protocol enabled should resend the request after some back-off time instead of immediately reconnecting to the server.

  • When you download email attachments through the MAPI over HTTP transport protocol in Outlook 2010, attachments may be corrupted in some scenarios. This issue occurs in multi-core processor systems and Outlook 2010 with online mode.

  • When a delegate opens a meeting request in Outlook 2010, some respond buttons, such as the Accept, Tentative, and Decline buttons, aren't displayed.

More Information

Windows 10

  1. Click Start, enter View Installed Updates in the Search Windows box, and then press Enter.

  2. In the list of updates, locate and then select update KB3114996, and then click Uninstall.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then select Search. If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then select Search.

  2. Enter windows update, click Windows Update, and then click Installed Updates.

  3. In the list of updates, locate and then select update KB3114996, and then click Uninstall.

Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP

  1. Click Start, enter Run, and then click Run.

  2. Enter Appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.

  3. Use one of the following procedures, depending on the operating system that you're running.

    • Windows 7 and Windows Vista

      1. CLick View installed updates.

      2. In the list of updates, locate and select update KB3114996, and then click Uninstall.

    • Windows XP

      1. Select the Show updates check box.

      2. In the list of updates, locate and select update KB3114996, and then click Remove.
