How to turn on the Enable Mail Logging option for troubleshooting in Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010

Let me fix it myself

To enable the mail logging option, follow these steps:

 For Outlook 2003 and Oulook 2007:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Other tab, click Advanced Options.
  3. Click to select the Enable mail logging (troubleshooting) check box in Outlook 2003 and the Enable logging (troubleshooting) check box in Outlook 2007, and then click OK two times.
For Outlook 2010:
  1. On the File tab, click Options.
  2. In the Outlook Options dialog box, click Advanced.
  3. In the Other section, select the Enable troubleshooting logging(requires restarting Outlook) check box, and then click OK.
  4. Exit and then restart Outlook.
You can also enable the mail logging option by editing the Registry. To do this, follow these steps.

  1. Click Start , and then click Run .
  2. In the Open dialog box, type regedit , and then click OK .
  3. In Registry Editor, locate the following key for Outlook 2010:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Mail
    Locate the following key for Outlook 2007:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Options\Mail
    Locate the following key for Outlook 2003:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options\Mail
  4. In the right pane, right-click EnableLogging , and then click Modify .
  5. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 1 under Value data , and then click OK .
  6. Quit Registry Editor.

To track failures in the application log by editing the registry. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open dialog box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. In Registry Editor, locate the following key for Outlook 2007:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\
    Locate and then select the following key for Outlook 2003:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\
  4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
  5. Type CancelRPC, and then press ENTER to name the key.
  6. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  7. Type EnablePerfTracking, and then press ENTER to name the DWORD.
  8. In the right pane, right-click EnablePerfTracking, and then click Modify.
  9. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, click Hexadecimal, and then type 1b under Value data.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Quit Registry Editor.

Log file locations

The log files are in plain text format. The default location of the log files are as follows.

Windows XP and Microsoft Windows 2000

Drive:\Documents and Settings\<logon name>\Local Settings\Temp\Outlook logging\Opmlog.log

Windows Vista

Drive:\Users\<logon name>\AppData\Local\Temp\Outlook logging\Opmlog.log
This setting may be customized, but you can access this setting by clicking Start, clicking Run, typing %temp% in the Open box, and then clicking OK.
