This article discusses when the Send To: Mail Recipient (PDF) option remains grayed out on all workstations when Adobe Acrobat Writer is installed.
1. You must perform a Custom installation of Adobe Acrobat and the Adobe Acrobat Distiller for Adobe 5.0. For Adobe 6.0 or later, you can perform a Typical installation so that the Adobe PDF Writer makes the PDF option available.
Note A Custom installation is required for Adobe 5.0 because a Typical installation does not install the Adobe Distiller. If you experience problems during the installation, contact Adobe for more information or for support.

2. Make sure the version of Adobe Acrobat is correct. To do this, click Start, click Printers and Faxes, right-click Acrobat PDF Writer, click Properties, and then click the About tab. We recommend that you use Adobe Acrobat 6.0 or a later version of Adobe Acrobat. To verify the versions of Adobe Acrobat that are supported by Microsoft Dynamics GP, refer to the System Requirements pages on PartnerSource or on CustomerSource. To do this, visit either site, point to Documentation on the left, and then click System Requirements.
3. To use the "Send To" button, a MAPI compliant e-mail application such as Microsoft Outlook is required. Make sure the e-mail application you are using is MAPI compliant.
4. Make sure a default e-mail profile is setup correctly. To test this, click Start, click Run, type mailto: and then click OK. The expected result is a new e-mail message window will appear. This test only makes sure that a default e-mail profile is set up. It does not make sure that the default e-mail application is MAPI compliant.
5. If you are using Windows Server 2003, there is a policy that disallows installation of kernel-mode drivers (which is what PDFWriter is) and it is set to "Not Configured" and it should be "Disabled". Use the following steps:
a. Click Start, click Run and then type MMC. Click File and then click Add/Remove Snap-in.
b. In the Add/Remove Snap-in window, click Add.
c. In the Add Standalone Snap-in window, choose Group Policy and choose Add.
d. Click Finish at the Group Policy Object window for the Local Computer.
e. Close the Add Standalong Snap-in window and then click OK at the Add/Remove Snap-in window.
f. Click the + sign next to Local Computer Policy.
g. Click the + sign next to Computer Configuration.
h. Click the + sign next to Administrative Templates.
i. Click the + sign next to Printers and then double-click Disallow installation of kernel-mode printers.
j. Click Disabled. Remove Adobe completely. Re-run Acrobat setup and click to select the Custom setup.
k. Only select PDFWriter and continue on with the installation.
