After you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) on a computer that has a Language Interface Pack (LIP) or Multilingual User Interface (MUI) installed, you may experience the following symptoms:

•	Some user interface items that were localized in the Language Interface Pack appear in the English language or to the original language of your Windows XP installation.
•	New features in Windows XP SP2, such as the Security Center, appear in English or in the original language of your Windows XP installation.

You expect Windows XP SP2 features to appear in the language that you configured by using the Language Interface Pack or Multilingual User Interface .

This issue occurs because the Language Interface Pack and Multilingual User Interface Pack do not include files that support new features that are included in Windows XP SP2. The Language Interface Pack and Multilingual User Interface Pack were created before Windows XP (SP2).

A Language Interface Pack is a high-quality, localized "skin" to localize your Windows XP user interface.

The binary files in the base operating system in Windows XP SP2 are different from the binary files in earlier versions of Windows XP. When Windows XP starts, it loads the resources in the MUI files that are included in a LIP or MUI if certain conditions are met. The update package that is available on the Windows Update site provides updated MUI files for the LIP or MUI that match the new the binary files in the base operating system.

The update package also provides the following necessary items:

•	An updated "Getting Started Guide" for the LIP that includes Windows XP SP2-specific information.
•	An updated resource dynamic link library (DLL) file, Xpsp2res.dll, that improves localization support for Windows XP SP2 in the the LIP or MUI .
•	MUI files that support Windows Media Player 9 and Windows Movie Maker 2. These features are new in Windows XP SP2.
