Expand all | Collapse all

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You modify a document by using Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007. Then, you try to save the modified document to a document library. In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
InfoPath cannot save the form.
The specified location is either not valid or not available.

Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the location is correct.
You experience this behavior when you try to save the modified document by using the same file name as the original document. For example, you experience this behavior when you try to overwrite the destination file.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if all the following conditions are true:
  • The document library in which the document is located is configured to require documents to be checked out.
  • You open the document to modify it without first checking out the document.
  • You try to overwrite the original document by saving the modified document to the same location and with the same file name.
This behavior occurs because InfoPath 2007 receives an "Access denied" error result. InfoPath 2007 receives this error result when InfoPath 2007 tries to obtain a lock on the destination file to overwrite the destination file. This error result occurs because the document is not checked out.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, check out the document before you modify the document. To do this, locate the document in the document library, and then click Check Out in the list next to the document.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
