Symptoms

The Outlook.com DAV service allows you to access an Outlook.com account by using Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 or Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. This service is scheduled to be discontinued at an undetermined future date no earlier than January 2009. After the service is discontinued, you may be unable to access an Outlook.com account by using Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007. 

When you try to use Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007 to access an Outlook.com account after the service is discontinued, you may receive an error message that Outlook is unable to connect to your e-mail server, or you may receive an error message that resembles the following error message:  
Task 'http://services.msn-: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error (0x800CCCF7) : 'To use Microsoft Windows Live Mail account in Outlook, you must install the most recent version of the Microsoft Office Outlook Connector for Live Mail. The server responded 'This operation is not permitted for this type of client.'

To resolve this problem, download and install the Microsoft Office Outlook Connector for Outlook.com. For more information about the Outlook Connector for Outlook.com, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

How to obtain the software update for Outlook 2003

Microsoft has released a software update to Outlook 2003 to improve the error message that you receive when you try to connect to Outlook.com by using the WebDAV protocol after it is discontinued. To obtain that update, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Note Installing this update does not resolve the problem that is described earlier. To resolve the problem, download and install the Microsoft Office Outlook Connector for Outlook.com.
