INTRODUCTION

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 2 (SP2) gives customers the latest updates to the Office Compatibility Pack for the Microsoft Office Word 2007 file format, for the Microsoft Office Excel 2007 file format, and for the Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 file format.

This service pack includes two main categories of fixes:

Previously unreleased fixes that were made specifically for this service pack.

Note In addition to general product fixes, these include improvements in stability, in performance, and in security.
All the public updates, security updates, cumulative updates, and hotfixes that were released through February 2009.

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack SP2 does not add the support for the following OpenDocument format file types:

.odt (text)
.ods (spreadsheet)
.odp (presentation)

These file types were added to 2007 Microsoft Office suite SP2. To open or edit OpenDocument format file types in pre-Office 2007 versions of Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, use the ODF Add-in for Microsoft Office. To download this add-in, visit the following SourceForge.net Web site:

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack SP2 does not add support for either the .pdf (Adobe) or .xps (Microsoft) file type to pre-Office 2007 versions of Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. To view and generate .xps files, use the Microsoft XPS viewer or Microsoft XPS Essentials Pack. These products are supported in Windows Vista, in Windows XP, and in Windows Server 2003. Windows 7 adds the support in WordPad for the .docx odt.file types.

Additionally, 2007 Microsoft Office suite SP2 is the first service pack to support the removal of client updates by using the command line and by using the Microsoft Service Pack Uninstall Tool for the 2007 Microsoft Office suite.
