Resolving the installation error for Windows Server 2003 Standard (x86) with SP1

If you try to install Integration Services on Windows Server 2003 Standard x86 Edition with Service Pack 1, you receive the following error message:
Unsupported Guest OS An error has occurred: The specified program requires a newer version of Windows.
To resolve this error, install a supported version of the software. The supported versions are the following:
  • Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x86 Edition with Service Pack 2
  • Windows Server 2003 Standard x86 Edition with Service Pack 2
