The version of AFD.SYS that is released together with security update 953230 (MS08-037) and security update 956803 (MS08-066) has an application compatibility issue

This update resolves an application compatibility issue that exists in the version of the AFD.SYS file that was released together with security update 953230 (security bulletin MS08-037) and security update 956803 (security bulletin MS08-066). This compatibility issue exists with certain Checkpoint Software Technologies products. The issue was introduced after the release of security bulletin MS08-037.  

Install update 958752 if you are running the following software products. Windows Update may not install security updates 953230 and 956803 on your computer until you have installed update 958752. After you install update 958752, you can install security updates 953230 and 956803 without experiencing a compatibility issue.
