Stop error message when a Windows Server 2008-based computer randomly restarts: "0x000000BE ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY"

A Windows Server 2008-based server may randomly restart. When this problem occurs, you receive a Stop error message that resembles the following message: Notes

This problem occurs because Windows Server 2008 does not correctly synchronize memory protection changes when the system writes registry hive files.

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Configuration Manager\
3. In the details pane, right-click ProtectedStorage, and then click Modify.
   
   Note If the ProtectedStorage registry entry does not exist, you must create it. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
   2. Type ProtectedStorage, and then press ENTER.
4. In the Base box, click Decimal, type 0 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
5. Exit Registry Editor.
6. Restart the computer.
