SYMPTOMS

"Runtime error 32797: Application Defined or Object Defined Error" This error occurs when launching Microsoft FRx after installing a Service Pack.

CAUSE

This error will occur if certain Microsoft FRx DLL files failed to register during installation or Crystal Reports 8 is installed or ever was installed on the machine.

There is a known issue with Crystal 8 causing registry permission problems.

RESOLUTION

  1. Browse out to the Microsoft FRx program files directory containing the frx32.exe and double-click the file named frxreg.exe.
  2. Perform these two possible fixes from Microsoft support:

It is important to note that this issue was caused by a known bug with the Crystal 8 application. If the above solutions do not work, it may be necessary to rebuild the affected machines to correct the registry problems.
