Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft SQL Server 2008, or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft SQL Server 2008, or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

You use a Microsoft SQL Server 2012, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft SQL Server 2008, or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provider to obtain information about Microsoft SQL Server 2012, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft SQL Server 2008, or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 services. However, the Wmiprvse.exe process stops responding. Or, you receive the following error message:

0x80041013 "Provider Load Failure"

Note You may receive the error message from Microsoft Operations Manager or from Microsoft System Center Operations Manager. This is because Microsoft Operations Manager and Microsoft System Center Operations Manager use SQL Server WMI provider to obtain information about SQL Server services.

Cause

This issue occurs because calls to the CoInitialize() function and the CoUnIntialize() function are not balanced.
