Symptoms

You view a Web page in Windows Internet Explorer on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. When you try to print the Web page by using an Internet Printer Protocol (IPP) printer, the print job fails. When this issue occurs, the print job does not appear in the print queue. Additionally, you receive the following event in the Microsoft-Windows-PrintService/Admin event log: This issue occurs when all the following conditions are true:

  • The protected mode of Internet Explorer is enabled for the Web site that you try to print.

  • The printer driver that you use does not support Enhanced Metafile (EMF) printing.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 file information notes

To work around this issue, update the printer driver to support EMF on the printer server.
