A System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) site server randomly hangs when it is processing status messages.
Additionally, you may notice the following symptoms:
After You Run the "Backup ConfigMgr Site Server" maintenance task, many of the components under ConfigMgr Service Manager Tool may show a status of Starting.
The Smsexec.log file will show no activity since the time that the backup completed.
Restarting the SMS Executive service and the SMS Site Component Manager service will temporarily restore them to correct operation. However, this issue will likely occur again every other time that the "Backup ConfigMgr Site Server" maintenance task finishes.
This issue occurs because of a deadlock situation in the SMS Executive (Smsexec.exe) service.
Hotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
Note The "dataldr.dll" file is not updated if you install this hotfix on secondary site servers. This is expected behavior because secondary site servers do not require this functionality.
