CD/DVD drive does not appear in Windows Vista, or you receive the following error message during Windows Vista setup after booting from the DVD:

 

A required CD/DVD driver device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Cause



Your CD/DVD drive is incompatible with Microsoft's AHCI driver (msahci.sys).

Resolution



To workaround this issue, disable AHCI mode for your disk controller in the system BIOS. Typically the controller has to be changed from AHCI mode to "IDE" or "ATA" mode.
