Notice

This update is no longer available. To fix the issues that are described in this article, install the latest Microsoft Office update from the following Microsoft Learn article:

Latest updates for versions of Office that use Windows Installer (MSI)

Update 3114717 is no longer available because it causes Microsoft Office 2013 apps, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook, to slow down or freeze. If you’ve installed this update and you're experiencing these issues, you can safely remove the update. To do this, see the "How to uninstall this update" section.

This article describes update KB3114717 for Microsoft Office 2013, which was released on February 9, 2016. This update also applies to Office Home and Student 2013 RT.

Be aware that the update in the Microsoft Download Center applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2013. It doesn't apply to the Office 2013 Click-to-Run editions, such as Microsoft Office 365 Home. (How to determine?)

Improvements and fixes

  • Includes translations for several terms in multiple languages to improve the accuracy of meaning.

  • Adds telemetry that will help root the cause how rendering stops working when the system is running low on memory.

  • Fixes the following issues:

    • Assume that you open an Excel worksheet that's being used by another user and select to be notified when it's available. Then, you make changes to the worksheet when it is available for edit. In this situation, you are prompted to discard or save the worksheet as a new worksheet because another user has changed it. This issue occurs even if other users have not changed the worksheet.

    • An Office add-in that overrides the default functionalities, such as copy or paste, and uses a delay loading can't be loaded in Office 2013 applications.

    • When you open an IRM-protected document by using the Edit permission in Word 2013, the Edit Document option on the View tab which should be available is disabled.
