Issue

I have some projects that I set up incorrectly and I just want to close them. It is difficult to go through the closing procedures because I do not have an accurate budget set up and I do not want to bill these projects. Is there a way that I can close them without going through the procedure?

Resolution

Close the projects without using the Project Closing procedures.

1. Go into Setup | Project | Project and click on the Status button.

2. Create a new Status called Final or whatever you wish and mark the Do Not Display check boxes.

3. Go into Cards | Project | Project and change the status on the project to Final. Also mark the check boxes for Closed to Project Costs and Closed to Project Billings.

4. Make any necessary General Ledger entries.

After completing these steps, your project will not appear in any of the lookups on transaction entry and you will get errors if you try to post costs or billings to this project.

These steps can also be completed at the Contract level if appropriate.

Note - Due to changes in the structure of how receipts were tracked, projects updated from version 5.x or prior will not close through the project closing routine. You must go through these steps to remove these projects from the lookups and simulate the closing process.
