Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:

You have a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services (SSRS 2008) report that uses Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services (SSAS 2008) data sources.

You open a dataset, and then you open the query designer.

You click OK or Cancel in the query designer.
In this scenario, you may see the following error message appear:
Query Preparation is in Process. To cancel, press and hold CTRL+C for at least half a second.
This message window stays for a long time, even if you try to cancel it.Note This issue occurs in both Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS 2008) and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Report Builder.
Resolution
The issue was first fixed in the following cumulative update of SQL Server.
Cumulative Update 14 for SQL Server 2008 SP3 /en-us/help/2893410
Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous cumulative update. Check out the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server:
