Symptoms

Assume that you run a SELECT statement from pure external tables (at least one of them is a storage pool table) in SQL Server 2019, and insert the received data into another external table in the same statement, you may see the following error message:


Msg 7320, Level 16, State 102, Line LineNumber

Cannot execute the query "Remote Query" against OLE DB provider "MSOLEDBSQL" for linked server "null". Only domain logins can be used to query Kerberized storage pool.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative update for SQL Server:

Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous cumulative update. Check out the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server:

Workaround

To work around the issue, you can use the following methods:

  1. You can join storage pool table with local table.

  2. You can insert data into local table first, and then read the data from local table to insert into data pool.
