Add a drawing to a document. These are the basic types of graphics that you can use to enhance your Word documents: drawing objects, SmartArt, charts, pictures, and clip art. Drawings refer to a drawing object or a group of drawing objects. Drawing objects include shapes, diagrams, flowcharts, curves, lines, and WordArt.

All apps include a Draw tool on the Draw tab of the Ribbon for switching between inking mode and selection mode. There is also an ink selection tool, Lasso Select, or for specifically for selecting objects drawn with ink.

On the Home tab, in the Tools group, click the arrow next to Rectangle to open the Drawing Tools list, and then click the tool for the kind of shape you want to draw. Drag on the drawing page to draw the shape. To stop drawing, in the Tools group, click the Pointer Tool . Draw a custom shape.

From the Lines gallery, select the kind of line you want to draw. On the canvas, click and drag your mouse to draw the line. Tip: To draw a perfectly horizontal or vertical line, press and hold the Shift key while you draw.

Windows macOS Web. Go to Insert > WordArt. Pick the WordArt style you want. Type your text. Note: To convert existing text to WordArt, select the text, and then select Insert > WordArt. Change the color. Select the WordArt text to change. On Shape Format or Drawing Tools Format, select Text Fill or Text Outline, and pick the color you want.
