"Tuner conflict" message when you try to change the channel in Windows Media Center on a computer that is running Windows 7

Applies to: Windows 7

Consider the following scenario:
  • You use a hybrid TV tuner to watch live TV from an analog signal in Windows Media Center on a computer that is running Windows 7.
  • You exit Windows Media Center without stopping the live TV playback.
  • You restart Windows Media Center to watch live TV again.
  • You try to change the channel.
In this scenario, you receive a "tuner conflict" overlay message that resembles the following:
All TV tuners are currently in use.
To change the channel, select the program or recording that you want to stop.
No data available.
If you leave the "tuner conflict" message for a while, the message will disappear and Windows Media Center switches to the desired channel.

Note A hybrid TV tuner is a TV tuner that can be configured to receive either an analog signal or a digital signal.

This issue occurs because the hybrid tuner object is not released if you exit Windows Media center without stopping the TV playback first.
