If you forgot your Microsoft account username or email address, and you have previously set up other security information on your Microsoft account, follow the steps below.

Tip: If you have not set up any other security information on your Microsoft account, go to Step 2.

Look up a forgotten username using other information

  1. Look up your username using your security contact phone number or email address.

  2. Request a security code to be sent to the phone number or email you used.

  3. Enter the code and select Next.

  4. We'll then show a hint of the username, in this format: j********

    • A phone number or other email address may be used as sign-in security information for more than one account.

    • If the hints don’t help, go to Step 2: Check products or services.

You weren't able to find your username...

If the username lookup wasn't successful, try looking for your Microsoft account username within other products or services that you know are associated with that account.

See Step 2: Check products or services where you used your Microsoft account for details.
