Change your translation settings in Outlook.com and Outlook on the web

When you receive a message in another language, a prompt will appear at the top of the message asking if you want to translate the text into your chosen display language. If you don't want Outlook to translate certain languages, or if you want Outlook to never translate messages, you can change your translation settings.

Notes:

  • Outlook will translate messages only if conversation view is turned on. To turn on conversation view, go to the View tab. Under the View tab, select Messages Group into conversations.

  • Outlook doesn't translate messages that have fewer than 40 characters.

Change your translation settings

  1. At the top of the page, select Settings Settings > Mail Message handling.

  2. Under Translation, choose one of the following:

    • Ask me before translating

    • Never translate

  3. If you don't want Outlook to translate a certain language, choose a language in the drop-down menu under Don't translate the following languages and then select Add.
