Build is your starting place in SharePoint to turn ideas into real solutions. SharePoint has always been a platform for building, whether that’s sites, document libraries, lists, or experiences that support everyday business processes. Build brings creation, management, and AI‑assisted actions together in one place, making it easier for anyone to build, improve, and grow solutions with confidence.

Note: The new SharePoint experience for Discover, Publish, and Build is in Preview. Your IT administrator can enable the new experiences for your organization.

Accessing Build

  1. Visit any SharePoint site or open SharePoint from the M365 app bar.

  2. Select Build from the SharePoint side app bar.

Build helps you move from idea to impact by reducing friction and providing clear guidance at every step.

Note: Your organization needs to assign a Copilot license to you to see the AI features (e.g., create an agent, AI actions like improve your site, etc.) in Build.

Start building with guided experiences

From the top of the page, you can quickly create:

  • Sites to collaborate with your team or communicate across your organization.

  • Lists to track work, manage data, and organize information.

  • Document libraries to store, organize, and collaborate on files with versioning and secure sharing.

  • Agents to enhance productivity and get content‑aware answers across your SharePoint content.

Guided creation experiences help you choose the right starting point and build faster, without needing deep technical knowledge.

Note: If the Site card is greyed out in the Start building section, self-service site creation may be disabled in SharePoint. Contact the person administering SharePoint in your organization to create a site. If you're a tenant administrator, see Manage site creation in SharePoint to enable self-service site creation for your organization or Manage sites in the SharePoint admin center to create a site from the SharePoint in Microsoft 365 admin center. Site creation is not currently available in the SharePoint mobile app.

Manage and improve what you build

The Owned by you section gives you a personalized view of the sites, lists, document libraries, and agents you own.

From here, you can:

  • Quickly return to your recent work.

  • Understand activity at a glance.

  • Manage and refine the solutions you’ve already created.

Inline analytics are surfaced directly in the experience, helping you instantly understand how your pages and content are performing—so you know what’s working and where to take action next.

Learn how to build with confidence

The Learn to build section connects you to modular guidance from Microsoft and the community. These resources highlight:

  • Best practices for building in SharePoint.

  • What’s new and changing across the platform.

  • Practical guidance to help you deliver higher‑quality experiences, faster.

By learning in context, you can stay current while continuously improving the solutions you build.
