Use Copilot Call Delegation in Microsoft Teams

Copilot Call Delegation in Teams helps you manage incoming calls. It answers calls on your behalf, gathers context, and takes action based on your availability and settings.

Copilot Call Delegation is an AI‑powered voice agent. It can screen calls, collect caller intent, schedule follow‑ups, and route urgent calls to you.

Copilot Call Delegation is supported on:

  • Windows desktop (English)

  • Mac desktop (English)

  • Web

Copilot Call Delegation is not supported on:

  • iOS

  • Android

This article explains how to turn on and configure Copilot Call Delegation in the Teams desktop app.​​​​​​​

Notes: 

  • Copilot Call Delegation is available as part of the Microsoft 365 Copilot Frontier program. Frontier provides early access to select Copilot and AI features before general availability. Features available through Frontier are shared for evaluation and feedback, and may change before general release.   • Copilot Call Delegation is included with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.

  • Copilot Call Delegation is currently available only when your Teams app language is set to English.

What Copilot Call Delegation can do

When you turn on Copilot Call Delegation, you can use these features:

  • Call screening: Screens calls before they reach you and helps block spam or fraudulent calls.

  • Caller context: Collects the caller’s reason for calling so you can decide how to respond.

  • Call routing and follow‑ups: Routes urgent calls to you or schedules callbacks and meetings when you are unavailable.

  • Out‑of‑office assistance: Detects when you are out of office and schedules meetings after you return.

  • Transparency and control: Notifies you when Copilot Call Delegation takes action. You can customize settings at any time.

Turn on Copilot Call Delegation

Copilot Call Delegation replaces your existing call routing settings.

To turn on Copilot Call Delegation:

  1. In Teams, go to Settings and more > Settings > Calls.

  2. Under Manage Copilot Call Delegation, select Set up Copilot Call Delegation.

If you do not see this option, contact your Teams admin.

What to expect in Teams

The first time you open the Calls app after Copilot Call Delegation is enabled, you see a welcome screen. The screen explains how Copilot Call Delegation works and what it can do.

During a call:

  • You receive a notification when Copilot Call Delegation answers a call.

  • A banner shows that the call is being screened.

  • You can join the call at any time by selecting Pick up from Call history.

  • Callers see an avatar and hear an announcement that they are speaking with an attendant, not a person.

  • Urgent calls may be escalated to you with a topic shown in the notification.

  • You can open a live preview from the screening banner or call history.

After a call:

  • A post‑call summary appears in Call history when available.

Configure Copilot Call Delegation settings

After you turn on Copilot Call Delegation, you can adjust how it handles your calls.

Call handling options:

  • Choose which calls are screened: Select whether Copilot Call Delegation screens internal or external calls.

  • Default language: Select the language Copilot Call Delegation uses when speaking with callers.

  • Filter spam‑likely calls: Automatically routes suspected spam calls to voicemail.

Privacy and content options:

  • Recordings and transcription: Turn call recording and transcription on or off for Copilot Call Delegation calls.

  • Schedule follow‑ups: Allow Copilot Call Delegation to schedule meetings on your behalf.

Configure Bookings calendar

Copilot Call Delegation uses a private Bookings calendar to schedule follow‑ups. This calendar is not created by default.

When you turn on Schedule follow‑ups, Copilot Call Delegation creates a private bookings calendar in the background.

To manage the calendar:

  1. In Call settings, select Schedule follow-ups.

  2. Review or update scheduling follow-ups, which can include:

  • How soon can someone a follow-up

  • How far in advance to schedule on your calendar

  • Set your available hours ​​​​​​​

Important: Save all changes. Updates do not take effect until they are saved.

Send feedback

You can report issues or share feedback in two ways.

Report from Teams settings:

  1. In Teams, select Settings and more at the top of the app.

  2. Select Feedback > Report a problem.

  3. Choose Copilot Call Delegation as the category.

  4. Describe the issue or feedback.

Report from call history:

  1. Go to Calls > Call history.

  2. Select a call handled by Copilot Call Delegation.

  3. In the side pane, select Report a problem with Copilot Call Delegation.

Known issues

  • Presence status is not considered. Calls are screened based only on your Copilot Call Delegation settings.

  • Background noise may affect call handling in some cases.

  • Live preview is not available when recording and transcription are turned off.

  • Post‑call summaries are not created if the caller hangs up early.

  • In Recap, Copilot Call Delegation may be attributed incorrectly.
