How to get updates

Surface updates are released in stages—not every Surface will receive updates at the same time, but they'll be delivered to all devices. If you haven’t previously received updates, you can manually update by following the steps at Download drivers and firmware for Surface.

You can quickly check the health of your Surface drivers and firmware using the Surface app.

Open the Surface app

In the Surface app, expand Help & support to check if the update status is "You're up to date" or something else.
If needed, select the option to update the devices.

Note: If you don't have the Surface app installed, you can download the Surface app from the Microsoft Store. When it has downloaded, select Start, search for Surface, then select the app from the list of results.

Notes:

Firmware updates can’t be uninstalled or reverted to an earlier version.
When you install the latest update, you'll also get all the previous updates if your Surface doesn't have them already. Only updates that apply to Surface will be downloaded and installed.
After the updates are installed, restart your device to complete the installation process. To restart your device, select Start , and then select Power > Restart.

This update addresses critical security vulnerability and improves system stability.

The Surface Storage Firmware Update, released on April 27, 2022, addresses the scenario listed in the February 2, 2022, release notes where some customers were unable to boot to Windows after installing the February update. This May 23, 2022, update re-releases the firmware and driver updates originally made available in February.

The following update has been removed from Windows Update after receiving reports from customers who were unable to boot to Windows after installing the update. Customers that have already installed the update will not encounter this scenario. We are actively working on a resolution and will make this update available in the future.
