Every PowerPoint presentation you create contains a slide master with related slide layouts and a theme. You can customize the slide master and the related layouts to make them work with the text and other objects that you want to put on your slides.

Open the slide master for editing

  1. On the View tab, select Slide Master.

  2. In Slide Master view, the slide master is at the very top of the thumbnail pane, with related layouts beneath it. Click to select that master slide, and then select Master Layout on the Slide Master tab.

  3. To show or hide the title, text, date, slide numbers, or footer placeholders on the slide master, check the boxes to show, or clear the boxes to hide the placeholders.

  4. To change the background style, select Background Styles, and then choose a background style.

  5. Revise any of the slide layouts as you see fit.

  6. When you're done, select Close Master View.
