Troubleshoot signing in to Clipchamp

Applies To
Clipchamp for work accounts

If you can't sign in to Clipchamp in the Windows app or a desktop browser, or keep returning to the sign-in page, start by checking your account. These steps can help you narrow down the problem before you change browser settings.

Before you sign out or close an open editing project, wait for project saving and any media uploads to finish. Keep your original media files available.

1. Pick your account type

Personal projects and work or school projects are separate. Open the version you used to create your projects:

The current Windows app also supports both account types, depending on your organization's policies. For automatic sign-in, switching accounts, or missing sign-in options, see Windows app sign-in guidance.

2. Personal account: use your connected Microsoft account

Use the personal Microsoft account connected to your existing Clipchamp account. Its email address might differ from the address you originally used with Clipchamp. A different account doesn't give you access to your existing projects.

Previously used Google or email? Follow the existing-account sign-in steps in a browser to find or connect the personal Microsoft account for your Clipchamp projects.

If your email sign-in link doesn't arrive or has expired, see Magic Link delivery and expiry guidance.

For a forgotten password or problems verifying your account, see How to reset a Clipchamp account password. An email sign-in link isn't a Microsoft password reset.

3. Work or school account: use Microsoft 365

Use your organization's account, not a personal Microsoft account that happens to use the same email address. If Microsoft asks which account type to use, select Work or school account.

  • If Clipchamp isn't listed in Microsoft 365, try the direct launch page. If you still can't open it, ask your IT administrator to check that Clipchamp is enabled and that you have an assigned license that includes it.
  • If the launch page opens Clipchamp on your organization's OneDrive or SharePoint address, continue there. Don't replace that address with the personal Clipchamp sign-in page.
  • If your password or verification method doesn't work when you sign in to Microsoft, follow the recovery instructions on that page or contact your IT team. Clearing Clipchamp data won't reset your password or change your organization's sign-in requirements.
  • If Microsoft sign-in succeeds but Clipchamp reports a licensing problem, see How to troubleshoot licensing issues for Clipchamp for work or school accounts.

For other ways to open the work or school version, see How to access Microsoft Clipchamp with your work or school account.

4. Retry without clearing browser data

If your account details are correct but Clipchamp keeps returning to sign-in, follow these steps in order:

  1. Use an up-to-date desktop version of Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. See Which web browsers does Clipchamp support?.
  2. Close any stalled sign-in tabs, then open the correct sign-in or launch page from Pick your account type in a new tab. If Microsoft selects the wrong account, choose a different account on the sign-in page.
  3. Try the same account and entry point in another supported browser. If you're using the Windows app, try the browser entry point for your account type.
  4. If your organization allows it, try an InPrivate window in Edge or an Incognito window in Chrome to check a separate browsing session without deleting your usual browser data.

Private browsing can also restrict cookies. For example, Chrome blocks third-party cookies in Incognito by default, so a failed private-window test doesn't always mean your account has a problem.

5. Check site settings and cookies

If your organization manages your browser or device, check with your IT team before changing its settings.

  • Blocked cookies: If the sign-in page reports that cookies are blocked, check the rules for that site. Follow the browser's guidance for allowing cookies on specific trusted sites: Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Don't turn off privacy protections for all websites. If a temporary exception doesn't help, remove it.
  • Browser extensions: If you suspect an extension is blocking the sign-in page or stopping sign-in from completing, follow the steps in Check browser extensions if Clipchamp won't open. Use a site-specific exception where possible, test one suspected extension at a time, and restore its settings afterward.

Important

Deleting site data can sign you out and remove cached media or unsaved changes. Before you delete site data, let project saving and uploads finish, and make sure you have the original media files or completed backups. You might not be able to recover unsaved changes or media without another copy.

If sign-in works in a separate browser session but still fails in your usual one after these checks, you can try deleting cookies and site data for the affected site. Follow the site-specific deletion steps in the Edge or Chrome guidance linked in this section. For work or school accounts, ask your IT team to identify the appropriate site first, because Microsoft sign-in and SharePoint data can be shared with other Microsoft 365 services. Don't clear cookies and cached data across all Microsoft domains.

After removing the affected site's data, reopen the correct sign-in page and try again.

6. Still stuck in a redirect loop?

If a message says Clipchamp can't contact its servers, check your internet connection and try again. On a managed device or network, ask your IT team to check required site access, proxy or firewall rules, and sign-in or session policies. Don't turn off a required VPN or proxy to get around your organization's controls.

If the failing web address includes mcas.ms, mention it to your IT team. This suffix identifies a Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps reverse-proxy session, not every Microsoft Entra Conditional Access policy. For the Clipchamp limitation, see Does Clipchamp for work or school accounts function on MCAS URLs?. Don't remove the suffix from the address as a workaround.

Still need help?
