If you’re new to touch devices, learning a few gestures will help you take maximum advantage of the touch capabilities.

Moving around in a file

To… Do this… Gestures
Scroll Touch the screen and slide your finger up and down, left and right. Slide your finger up, down, left, or right to scroll
Zoom in Spread two fingers apart. To zoom in, stretch two fingers apart
Zoom out Pinch two fingers together. To zoom out, pinch two fingers together

Making a selection

To… Do this… Gestures
Place the cursor Tap the location. To place the cursor, tap the desired location
Activate the onscreen keyboard Tap anywhere in some text. To active the keyboard, tap anywhere in some text
Hide the onscreen keyboard Tap the Keyboard key. Tap the Keyboard key in the lower-right to hide the keyboard
Select and edit text Double-tap a word to select. This also starts the Edit menu. Double-tap a word to select it and start the Edit menu
Select a paragraph Triple-tap within the paragraph. To select a paragraph, triple-tap anywhere inside it
Select several words, sentences, paragraphs Double-tap the first word and drag the selection handle right, or right and downward, to the last word you want to select. Double-tap the first word and drag to the right, or right and down, to select
Select the contents of a table Tap anywhere on the table. To select the contents of a table, tap anywhere in the table
Clear text selection Tap the left or the right margin. To clear a text selection, tap the left or right margins

Working with shapes and objects

To… Do this… Gestures
Move Tap the object, hold and drag to the desired location. To move an object, tap it, hold, and drag to the new location
Resize Tap the object, then drag any of the resize handles. To resize, tap the object, then drag any resize handle
Rotate Tap the object, then hold and drag the rotation handle. Tap the object, then hold and drag the rotation handle
