You can check your current Windows edition by going to Start > Settings > System > About and looking under Windows specifications.
Upgrading from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro
If your Surface device came with Windows 11 Home, you can upgrade to Windows 11 Pro to unlock advanced features like BitLocker encryption, Remote Desktop, and domain join capabilities.

If you are viewing this page on the Surface device you want to upgrade, select the Upgrade button below. When the Store page appears, follow the prompts to complete the upgrade and restart your device.Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro​​​​​​​
You can also upgrade by manually opening system settings on the device.

Open Settings > System > Activation.

Select Open Store and follow the prompts to complete the upgrade and restart your device.
Note:Â Your device must be running an activated copy of Windows 11 Home to upgrade.Open System > Activation

Upgrading from Windows 11 Pro to Education or Enterprise
If your Surface device came with Windows 11 Pro and you need to upgrade to Windows 11 Education or Windows 11 Enterprise, this typically requires a valid product key or volume licensing through your organization.
Upgrade Steps

Open Settings > System > Activation.

Select Change next to Change product key.

Enter the 25-character product key for Windows 11 Education or Enterprise.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the upgrade.
