The Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot are AI-powered tools that help you create files simply by describing what you need. These agents help you generate drafts, organize information, and build professional files for work tasks. Use them whenever you want to quickly create new documents, spreadsheets, and presentations from Copilot Chat.

Notes:

  • Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Agents are currently available in English and to users in the Frontier early access program with a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription.

  • Your organization’s admin must enable access to these agents.

  • Always review generated files for accuracy before sharing.

Why use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Agents?

These agents help you create Word documents, Excel workbooks, and PowerPoint presentations from your descriptions—no advanced formatting or design skills needed. Here’s how it makes your work easier:

  • Create files easily: Generate Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files from a simple prompt.

  • Edit with feedback: Refine drafts with high-level feedback (like “make it shorter,” “add a slide”) or edit directly in Microsoft 365 apps.

  • Work with your business data: Pull in relevant information from your files, emails, or business data for richer results with Word Agent and PowerPoint Agent.

  • Privacy and control: Your data is securely processed. Reasoning models do not retain content beyond your request, customer data is never used to train the models, and Copilot respects sensitivity labels along with your organization’s enterprise access policies.

  • Files saved to OneDrive: Access and edit your generated files anytime.

Where to find Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Agents

You can access the agents in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on web or in Teams. Look for the Word Agent, Excel Agent, or PowerPoint Agent under the Agents or Tools menu.  If you don’t see these options, your admin may need to enable access to Anthropic AI models or join Frontier early access. How to use agents to create a file

  1. Open Copilot and select an agent: In the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on web or in Teams, go to the Tools menu in Copilot Chat or the Agents menu, and choose Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.

    2. Build a 10-slide marketing strategy presentation with a modern design.

    3. Set up a budget tracker with monthly sheets and summary charts.

  3. Answer clarifying questions: If prompted, specify tone, length, or other details.

  4. Review the preview: The agent generates your file and shows a preview.

  5. Save and edit: The completed file is saved to your OneDrive. Open it in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint to review and polish.
