The latest and most feature-rich versions of the Office desktop apps are always available through a Microsoft 365 (or Office 365) subscription. Office suites offered as a one-time purchase include desktop apps such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for use on a single device. Office suites offered as a one-time purchase do not include cloud-backed features (for example, PowerPoint Designer, Data Types in Excel) or any of the services included in Microsoft 365 (for example, OneDrive, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online).

General information

Office suites are available in the languages listed here. Learn how to change the language Office uses in its menus and proofing tools.

All Office suites receive five years of mainstream support after launch. Starting with the 2021 release, no extended support is provided for Office. This page provides system requirements and associated information for supported versions of Office only.

Microsoft 365 is designed to work with the latest versions of Office. If you use older versions of Office that are not in mainstream support:

  • Microsoft won’t deliberately prevent you from connecting to the service, but the quality of your Microsoft 365 experience may diminish over time.

  • Microsoft won’t provide code fixes to resolve non-security related problems.
