What you can do in Copilot and whether you can access Copilot Chat in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote depends on the type of Microsoft 365 subscription you have and what your license or organization allows. How to check your license with a work or school account (Entra ID)
Work or school account users can now see their license by checking the Copilot label associated with their account.

Sign in to Microsoft 365. On the home page, scroll to the bottom to view your account.

A label of Copilot Chat (Basic), M365 Copilot (Basic), or M365 Copilot (Premium) appears under your name. This label indicates if you have a Copilot add-on license and the apps where you can access Copilot directly.

Copilot Chat (Basic) - You don't have the Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on license and don't have access to Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.

M365 Copilot (Basic) - You don't have the Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on license, but will have standard access to Copilot in the apps.

M365 Copilot (Premium) - You have a Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on license with priority access for the full experience of Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
To get the Copilot experience in Microsoft 365 apps including advanced reasoning and model choice, contact your admin.

How to check your license with a Microsoft account
Only Microsoft account users with a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription such as Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Premium have access to Copilot in Microsoft 365, and only the subscription owner can use Copilot in the desktop apps.
If you’re not sure what version of Microsoft 365 you have, sign in to your Microsoft account dashboard.

In the Windows task bar, select Start.

Select your account to see the Microsoft 365 subscription you’re licensed for.
