Symptoms

Assume that you have a database that has many objects backed up in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2, and you are trying to restore the backup to SQL Server 2016 or 2017. In this scenario, you notice that restoration takes a long time to finish.

When it restores the SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 database backup to SQL Server 2016 or 2017, SQL Server has to upgrade the internal version of the databases. One of the version upgrade steps was optimized to shorten the upgrade time.
