Update Surface Headphones
Get the best experience from your Surface Headphones 2 by keeping them up to date with the latest improvements. To install updates for your Surface Headphones, use the Surface app.

To update your headphones more quickly, use the included USB cable instead of updating them over Bluetooth.

Set up your Surface Headphones in the Surface app. Learn how

Plug the USB cable into your Windows 10/11 PC, then plug the other end into the USB-C port on your headphones.

Open the Surface app, and then select Surface Headphones.

Select Device information, and under Firmware update, see if any updates are available. If an update is available, select Update using Bluetooth or Update using USB.
Updating is faster over USB compared to Bluetooth. Using USB, the update will take a few minutes to download, and you can use your headphones during this time. After the download, your headphones will restart and the update will take a few minutes to install. If your Surface Headphones don't restart after a few minutes, press and release the power button quickly to turn on your headphones and reconnect.

Open the Surface app, then tap Account > Surface Headphones > Device information.

In Device information, check to see if an update is available.

If an update is available, tap Update. Tap Continue anyway if you want to update your headphones using your phone instead of on your PC using a USB cable, which is faster.

If an update is available, tap Update now.
The update will take a while to download and install (up to an hour or more), and you can use your headphones during this time. (If you use them during this time, it can delay the update.) After the download, your headphones will restart and the update will take a few minutes to install. During the installation, your headphones will appear to be off. If your Surface Headphones don't restart after a few minutes, press and release the power button quickly to turn on your headphones and reconnect.

Note: Any updates for Surface USB Link are installed through Windows Update on your Windows 10 PC. To see if any updates are available for Surface USB Link, plug it into your PC, then select Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates. On Windows 11, select Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
