How to correct a #CONNECT! error

A #CONNECT error occurs when a formula can't connect to a required resource. See the following:

General

File can't be accessed

  • The path is incorrect, or the file was deleted or moved.
  • You don't have permission to access the file.
  • The linked workbook couldn't be read and may be corrupt.

Network connectivity issues

Can't access a required service because there is a problem connecting to the internet. Check the internet connection on your device and try again. For more information, see Fix network connection issues in Windows.

Office Add-in not loaded

There are calculations that depend on data types from data domains defined by one or more Office Add-ins. Try closing and reopening the workbook to get the add-ins to load.

Unable to connect

The server is not responding and may be undergoing maintenance. Please try again later.

Request throttled

You have exceeded the request limit. Try again later.

File not in the cloud

Refreshing of locally saved workbooks are not supported in Excel for Web. To refresh these workbook links, open the the workbook in Excel Desktop or Excel Mac on the device with the linked workbook.

Unable to read workbook

The workbook cannot be read and may be corrupt.

Unable to get to file

The linked workbook couldn't be accessed. This file may have been moved or you may no longer have permission to access it.

Service error

A required service is not responding or may be undergoing maintenance.

File on another domain

The linked workbook is on another internet domain and can't be refreshed. A domain has a unique URL address that points to services, web sites, data centers, or personal computers.

Not logged in

The linked workbook couldn't be read because you're not logged in.

Too many linked workbooks

This workbook has exceeded the limit for linked workbooks.

Linked workbook too large

The workbook you are referencing exceeds the maximum supported workbook size.

Required images unavailable

Can't access resources required for an image.

Can't retrieve the image

Unable to retrieve the image. Try again later.

Python in Excel

Service not available

We weren't able to retrieve this value from the service. Your session may have timed out. We recommend restarting the external code service environment.

Resource not available

We weren't able to retrieve this value because the compute resource of the external code service isn't available.

Unable to upload

Something went wrong with the data upload. Please try again.
