To see if you're using the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, select the Start button, then in the search box next to Start, type dxdiag.exe . Choose dxdiag.exe from the list of results and then on the Display tab under Device, look at the value for Name. If there's more than one Display tab, check all of them.

Solution 1: Power reset your external display. Solution 2: Check the video input settings. Solution 3: Check the port version setting on the external display. Solution 4: Duplicate or extend your display on the external screen. Solution 5: Check the video cables. Solution 6: Check the display adapter.

Look for any unrecognized or generic display devices that may correspond to your MHL device. If your MHL device is detected, it should appear under Display adapters or Other devices with its proper name.

1. Check your speaker output. 2. Run the audio troubleshooter. 3. Verify that all Windows Updates are installed. 4. Check your cables, plugs, jacks, volume, speaker, and headphone connections. 5. Check sound settings. 6. Fix your audio drivers. 7. Set your audio device as the default device. 8. Turn off audio enhancements. 9. Restart Audio Services

Troubleshoot Surface Dock. Select the problem you're experiencing: Surface Dock isn't connecting to your external monitor. Problems charging with Surface Dock. Audio problems while connected to the Surface dock. Network issues with Surface Dock. Reset your Surface Dock.

Your PC should automatically detect your monitors and show your desktop. If you don't see the monitors, select Detect . In the Multiple displays section, select an option from the list to determine how your desktop will display across your screens.

Select Settings > System > Display > Identify. A number appears on the screen of the display it's assigned to. Detect a display. If you connected another display and it isn't showing in Settings, select Start > Settings > System > Display > Multiple displays > Detect. Arrange your displays.
