A digital signature is an electronic, encrypted, stamp of authentication on digital information such as email messages, macros, or electronic documents. A signature confirms that the information originated from the signer and has not been altered.

A digital signature is used to authenticate digital information — such as form templates, forms, e-mail messages, and documents — by using computer cryptography. Once a form is signed, either the entire form or part of the form that was signed cannot be altered without invalidating the signature.

In order to cancel the fake order, you'll either have to click a link or call them on the telephone. Either way, the ultimate goal of the scammers is to get you to give them some personal information. They'll claim it's for the purposes of canceling the fake order.

Send digitally signed messages as clear text if you want to make sure that your digitally signed messages can be opened by all recipients, even if they do not have an S/MIME mail application and can't verify the certificate.

Open the digitally signed message. Look at the Signed By status line to check the email address of the person who signed the message. It isn't enough to check the email address in the From line—you want to verify who actually signed the message, not only who sent the message.
