Turn automatic updates on or off in Windows 7

Here's how to turn automatic updates on or off in Windows 7:

1. Select the Start button. In the search box, enter Update, and then select Windows Update from the list of results.

2. In the left pane, select Change settings, and then under Important updates, select one of these options:

   • Install updates automatically (recommended) to turn on automatic updates

   • Download updates but let me choose whether to install them or Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them to turn off automatic updates and install them manually.

3. Select OK to save your changes.
