We block apps that could damage your PC or cause you to lose data. This sometimes includes apps that worked with a previous version of Windows. If an app won't open after you updated to Windows 10, it probably isn't compatible.
If the app is not a Microsoft app, we recommend checking online for a new or updated version. The website of the app’s originator usually includes guidance about updating.
If you don't find a newer version, you can use the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter. How to make older programs compatible
It’s sometimes helpful to uninstall and reinstall an app that isn't working.
- If you got the app from the Microsoft Store, find it in the Start menu, right-click it, then select Uninstall. Select Install to install the app again.
- If you didn't get the app in the Microsoft store, select Start > Settings > Apps. Select an app to see the options. Then, if it's available for the app that isn't working, select Uninstall. Select Install to install the app again.
Note
If you can't install your usual antivirus app right away, we've got you covered by the built-in, automatic Windows 10 antivirus solution. See Stay protected with Windows Security.
