This article describes the Microsoft OneNote 2010 issue that is fixed in the hotfix package that is dated October 25, 2011.

INTRODUCTION

Issue that this hotfix package fixes

You cannot open a notebook to a web server that is configured to require client certificates. Additionally, you receive one or more of the following error messages:

  • Unable to open Hyperlink.  A security problem occurred.

  • Unable to open Hyperlink.  Cannot download the information you requested.

Note After you install the hotfix package, you have to enable the registry key by following the steps that are described in "Registry information" section.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

  2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\OneNote\Security

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

  4. Type HyperlinkUseExtensionServices, and then press ENTER.

  5. In the details pane, right-click HyperlinkUseExtensionServices, and then click Modify.

  6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
    Note Type a nonzero value to enable the fix.

  7. Exit Registry Editor.

The global version of this hotfix package uses a Microsoft Windows Installer package to install the hotfix package.
