Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:

You install the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
-
You create a Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) application that targets the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. The application uses the TextFormatter.FormatLine method to format and render text into an image.

You run the WPF application.
In this scenario, an ArithmeticOverflow exception occurs intermittently. Additionally, the generated image lacks some text or contains some text that is rendered incorrectly.
Cause
This issue occurs because of an error in the DirectWrite API that the .NET Framework 4.0-based WPF application uses to render the text into an image.
Resolution
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Registry information
To use the hotfix in this package, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.
Restart requirement
You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

File information
The global version of this hotfix installs files that have the attributes that are listed in the following tables. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 file information notes
