Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft Azure SQL database that contains tables that are formatted to include variable-length binary data (varbinary) columns.

  • The varbinary columns contain data whose size is equal to or larger than 4,116,480 bytes.

  • You create a data-tier application (DAC) package (.dacpac file together with data or with a .bacpac file) from the database by using the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Data-Tier Application Framework (DACFx).

In this scenario, the data in the DAC package may differ from the data in the original database.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, install the updated release of DACFx that is described in the following section. Then, re-create the DAC package for the database that was affected by this problem.

The updated release of DACFx is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this update.

This update replaces Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Data-Tier Application Framework (March 2013).

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
