Be aware that the update in Download Center applies to Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2016. It doesn't apply to the Office 2016 Click-to-Run editions such as Microsoft Office 365 Home. (How to determine?)

Improvements and fixes


  • Updates caption buttons (minimize, maximum, and close) to match Windows 10 visuals in Office 2016 applications.
  • A series of visual updates for the default and high contrast themes in Office 2016 applications.
  • Fixes the following issues:
    • Outlook module navigation buttons aren't displayed in touch mode in Microsoft Outlook 2016 in high contrast themes.
    • Sends application versions (.exe) in per upload metadata instead of Office versions.

To determine whether your Office installation is Click-to-Run or MSI-based, follow these steps:
  1. Open an Office 2016 application, such as Microsoft Word 2016.
  2. On the File menu, select Account.
  3. For Office 2016 Click-to-Run installations, an Update Options item is displayed. For MSI-based installations, the Update Options item isn't displayed.
