Stop error 0x3B when an application changes the z-order of a window in Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

Symptoms


When an application tries to change the z-order of windows on a computer that is running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, a 0x3B Stop error occurs in win32k.sys. 

Resolution


To resolve this issue, install the hotfix that is described in this article.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
