Active camera is switched unexpectedly when you review photos in Camera app in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2

Applies to: Windows Server 2012 R2 DatacenterWindows Server 2012 R2 StandardWindows Server 2012 R2 Foundation

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2.
  • The computer has two or more cameras, such as front and rear cameras.
  • You open the Camera app and then take some photos.
  • You see the camera preview, and then you review the other photos in the app.
  • You continuously switch from camera preview to viewing photos.
In this scenario, the active camera is switched unexpectedly to another camera.

Cause

This issue occurs because a variable that determines whether a new camera should be picked tostart is set asynchronously. This triggers a timing issue while the system selects the correct camera.
