Symptoms

This issue occurs after you upgrade a Windows Server 2012 server that has Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS) installed to Windows Server 2012 R2. Additionally, if you call the GetConfigEntry method to retrieve the configuration information for a certification authority (CA), the returned message always indicates Windows Server 2012 instead of Windows Server 2012 R2.

Cause

This issue occurs because the value of the following registry entry is not updated after the operating system is upgraded to Windows Server 2012 R2:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CertSvc\Configuration\Version

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the December 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
